This particular case and similar ones caused our standards organization (the
OGC) to completely rework our intellectual property policy to insure that
our standards are 1.) unencumbered by any IP and 2.) defensible if anyone
does bring a claim of infringement at a later time. Both OASIS and the W3C
also reworked their IP policies in the same general timeframe.
